What Is a Three Credit Report Score for Small Businesses?

business credit creditIf you’ve done a little research on business credit, then you may have come across the term: Three Credit Report Score. If you’re starting a small business, or you have one already and are concerned about your credit picture, you may be wondering, what does Three Credit Report Score mean for small businesses?

The Three Credit Report Score

The three credit report score generally refers to the credit scores that are based on the reports of the three major credit reporting bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Because each of these bureaus may get slightly different information, their scores may vary, and it’s important for those looking to acquire credit to know what each report says about them. However, this generally applies to personal credit, and unless you are using your personal credit history to support your business, these are not the scores you should most be concerned about.

Small Business Credit and the PAYDEX® Score

As a small business owner, the score you really need to be concerned about is your PAYDEX® score. You can get your PAYDEX® score from Dun & Bradstreet, and you should do so as soon as possible, as others will be looking at this score to determine your creditworthiness. The PAYDEX® scale ranges from 0 to 100, and a score of 80 or higher is needed in order for others to have confidence in your business credit.

If you’re a small business owner preparing to apply for credit, then you shouldn’t waste time worrying about three credit report scores, 3-in-1 credit reports, or anything of that nature. Instead, get your business credit report and PAYDEX® score from D&B to know where you really stand with respect to business credit, and sign up for credit monitoring if you want to be kept up to date on any significant changes to your credit report over time.
