Broader Horizons Management Consulting (BMHC) provides planning, development and training services in the areas of agriculture, economic development, special education, energy and the environment.
Our mission is to support low-wealth people and communities by building capacity and leveraging partnerships and resources. We will be happy to provide additional information about assistance and professional services.
Agriculture: We provide an assortment of programs and services that contribute to a strong and sustainable local food system. Consulting services support farmers, connect consumers and educate the public to foster lasting business relationships between family farmers and wholesale buyers (chefs, caterers and grocers) to bring locally grown food to the marketplace. Broader Horizons consults with buyers one-on-one to contact them with the locally-grown products that best suit their business and prepares farmers for the demands of the direct, retail and wholesale marketplaces to build capacity and increases economic viability for farmers through consultation, workshops, networking events, and training materials.
Energy and Environmental: Broader Horizons Management Consulting provides technical and professional management advice in the development of programs related to energy efficiency, fossil fuels, alternative fuels including solar and biomass in addition to recycling and environmental services. We work with energy and environmental organizations to address the development of policies and goals for sustainable development from an economic, environmental and social perspective. BHMC also provides energy auditor training program, teaching participants how to conduct a detailed home energy audit using the house-as-a-system approach to identify the common energy wasting areas of a residence and techniques to provide clients with the maximum in energy savings.
Economic Development: BHMC supports economic, and social needs of companies and residents through planning for land use, environmental management, workforce development, neighborhood improvement, and community development. We help businesses grow and succeed by encouraging business development and expansion and by helping businesses develop the necessary prerequisites to support their initiatives such as: strategic plans, feasibility studies, business plans and marketing studies. BHMC also assists small businessmen with filing for incorporation, nonprofit status, tax identification numbers, and with programs which help small disadvantaged businesses compete in the marketplace through assistance with 8A certification and registration with the U.S. government System of Award Management (SAM). We promote business ventures that create new opportunities for people and communities.
Special Education: Our work creates a bridge between home and school to maximize the use of services and supports and to ensure that students have adequate and appropriate educational assistance. We assist clients in locating both financial and educational resources, and we provide training to assist parents and guardians in becoming better advocates for their children.
Evaluation: BHMC works with organizations to document the impact of programs and projects on local communities. Evaluators spend time working with staff to integrate evaluation activities into day-to-day project management and delivery. Evaluations are inclusive of staff, stakeholders and the affected community and BHMC uses a holistic approach to thoroughly examine the sustainability of implementation. Our work centers on analyzing the specific situation, and assisting in developing a design with the evaluation team that will lead to the most useful and important information and final products.
