Apex Pipeline has a wide array of competitors due to the various segments of the industry in which we work. Each segment's competitors pose different issues to overcome to be successful. This is addressed in the following paragraphs by key segment and competitor.
The first segment to address is the gas production segment. This segment will initially account for a large portion of our business. The competition in the segment is typically smaller, non-union contractors with limitations on the amount of work they can perform at on time. Though there are some capable contractors in this segment, the amount of work planned for gas production in our market in the next three to five years will far exceed their capabilities and leave us an opportunity to capitalize on the overflow of projects. Another limitation some of these companies is the age of their ownership and the lack of continuity for the future, causing the distinct probability of closure in the near future.
The next segment is the gas transmission segment. This segment forms the foundation for our future expansion and longevity. It is also the area where we have the strongest and most experienced competition. The competition in this segment is typically large, union, well-established companies that work in many segments and markets and control large portions of the market share in each one. These companies are all near or over the twenty year old mark and have progressive management and are well respected by their peers and customers. This segment will start as a smaller portion of our initial business but will, in all likelihood, become our largest.
