Chemlu Developmental Disabilities Center (Chemlu) was born out of the recognition that more needs to be done for individuals with special needs. In 2004, Chemlu was granted its license to operate Medicaid Waiver Services. Today, it is providing much needed services and supports to individuals with various disabilities and their families.
Chemlu is an approved provider of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS Waiver) and operates a variety of rehabilitative, therapeutic, supportive, and community services to people with developmental disabilities.
Day & Community Programs
Under its license from the NYS Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Chemlu operates the following programs:
Community Habilitation
Group Day Habilitation
Supplemental Group Day Habilitation
Free-Standing Respite
Our unique without walls model is making the impossible possible for individuals with developmental disabilities, and delivers an outcome far above the norm.
Individual Housing Support Services
Chemlu assists people with developmental disabilities in locating, leasing, sustaining, and maintaining full independent living arrangements, as a more dignified and productive alternative to traditional group living. Monthly housing subsidy payments are made to landlords and utility vendors as necessary.
Service Coordination
Chemlus Medicaid Service Coordination program is staffed by highly qualified Service Coordinators under the supervision of our licensed in-house social worker. Together they perform as ombudsmen, advocate, and case manager for the individuals which we serve.
Chemlu also provides the following services:
Bilingual Evaluations (Psychological, Psychosocial);
Social Work;
Eligibility Assessment;
Family Education and Training;
Family Support Services;
Educational Advocacy.
