The Council for Health Education and Development, LLC (CFHED) is a comprehensive information and training center for caregivers. CFHED is committed to the provision of quality caregiver instruction by licensed professionals (physical therapists, physical assistants, and speech pathologists) for the continued health of the family unit. The skills taught are the same ones taught in rehab settings around the world. These are basic skills that do not require a doctor's prescription. Basic skills are taught in the following areas: body mechanics, transfers, ambulation, positioning, range of motion/exercise, self-care, communication and feeding. In addition to the training video, 4 classes of approximately 4 hours each are offered and provide more in-depth training. CPR is also offered, if requested, to enhance our focus on safety. Due to the guidelines of the American Heart Association, CPR would be an extra class of two to three hours.Ms. Peggy Kelso, the founder and president of CFHED, is a native Texan. She received her M.Ed in 1968 and has been a licensed Speech Pathologist for the past thirty-three years, working with both pediatric and adult populations. She has served as a director of an acute care hospital rehabilitation program as well as a director of rehabilitation in long-term care. She received an MBA in 1995 and is familiar with the fiscal, marketing and operational aspects of rehabilitation. In addition, Ms. Kelso is a certified Personal Trainer. She is currently working as a therapist in long-term care as well as performing evaluations in hospitals. Since therapists have been limited in recent years by Medicare requirements in the provision of family training, it is the intent of the Council for Health Education and Development, LLC to make those skills available to the general public.The Council for Health Education and Development, LLC is a creative, hands-on program that is now being offered to the general public. For corporations, it provides significant cost-effective savings in benefit claims, retention and retraining costs. CFHED provides the employer with a competitive advantage in the 21st century where a major emphasis is on, but not restricted to, elder care. It is an excellent tool to enhance a company's benefit package and, at the same time, enrich the employee/employer relationship. For the employee and his/her family member, CFHED instills confidence and relieves anxiety by providing training in skills used by professionals. It provides a base by which to judge the care received by family members, if the time comes when they must live elsewhere. Meanwhile, the care receiver is able to maintain dignity, respect and independence for as long as possible. CFHED comes to you. Classes are taught onsite.
