EHRMagic, Inc., an IT (Information Technology) company, located in the Los Angeles area, specializes in developing software for the medical industry specifically for physician private practices. It is an outgrowth of SonyWeb in 1999. In 2000 the company developed a billing program for physicians to use for the management of their patients’ billing and for the reimbursement for services through insurance companies. Since the insurance companies require physicians to submit their claims through an Insurance Clearing House, the company created such a clearing house and obtained the required approvals from Medicare/Medicaid and insurance companies to process all of the claims presented by physicians. In 2000 the company began to develop a program to aid physicians and their staff in the management of their practices, as well as the electronic record storage of their patients’ medical records, known as Electronic Health Records Systems (EHR); also called Electronic Medical Records Systems (EMR). To reflect this specialization the company incorporated and changed its name to EHRMagic, Inc., in 2009. The early version of the EHR program was bundled with the billing software, at no additional charge, and the company developed a user base of physicians who used both the billing and EHR programs. By 2004 there was still very few other software companies entering this arena and some of the large hospitals, especially Kaiser HMO system started to develop with software companies EHR systems for their use.
