Company Summary

Farley Farm Supply was established in 1977 by Lawrence and Bernice Farley. The business was purchased from Boss and Marie Johnson, who had operated it for over 20 years. It was primarily a peanut buying point, which sold peanut seed, dry fertilizer, and chemicals.
The Farleys wanted a full service farm supply, including feed, all types of field and garden seed, vet supplies, lawn and garden supplies, and custom application of fertilizer.
Sons Danny and Jim Farley joined the business in 1977. Danny is currently the pastor of Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston. Lawrence and Bernice are retired. Jim has been the owner of Farley Farm Supply since 1989.
A dry fertilizer blend facility was added in the late 1980’s. Liquid fertilizer was offered in 1992.
Equipment has changed drastically since the inception of the business. Nobody knew what GPS was in 1977. Foam markers were not even available on custom application equipment. It is much easier to do a good job of spreading fertilizer today, than it was when the business opened. It goes without saying that equipment costs, and all other costs have increased dramatically over the years.
The goals have not changed. Honesty and integrity are first and foremost. Service that keeps the interest of the customer at heart is extremely important. Dedicated employees, who share the goals of the Farlelys, are critical for any success the business has enjoyed. An adequate inventory of products that fits the customer’s needs is essential.
In a seasonal business, it is also important to make a lot of things happen in a short period of time, in the spring. None of these goals mean anything unless a repeat customer is making money to keep purchasing goods and services.
Peanuts were the primary crop for this business and the service area until the early 1990’s. Beef and dairy cattle, pecans, and Bermuda grass for hay and grazing, have, by in large, replaced the peanuts today.
