Bacitracin: Bacitracin was first discovered in 1945 by Dr. John T. Goorley. Dr. Goorley applied it on a bacillus (bacterial wound) on a patient named Tracy. He found that it was effective topically as a skin antibiotic preparation. Dr. Goorley named this compound “bacitracin.” Bacitracin was approved by the FDA in 1948. In 2003, it was named Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Association. Original Bacitraycin Plus® and Maximum Strength Bacitraycin Plus® (both with Moisturizing Aloe) are the only national brands of bacitracin ointment in the U.S. today.

Tattoos: Original Bacitraycin Plus® is recommended as an aftercare antibiotic on tattoos. It is preferred over combination products such as Polysporin®, Neosporin®, and Triple Antibiotics because it has fewer antibiotic ingredients, which lowers the risk of allergic reactions.
