Contacts Roberta Becker Opera is for Everybody. Golden Gate Opera ignites appreciation of art, life and learning with opera for all ages, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Now celebrating its 17th year, Marin County's Golden Gate Opera (GGO) was founded by a collective of Bay Area professional singers and directors, many of whom had worked together since 1983. GGO received its not-for-profit status in February 1996, and from 1997 presented full operas at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor's Florence Gould Theatre in San Francisco.
In 2005, GGO moved its headquarters to Marin County debuting in the 2,000-seat Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium with Madama Butterfly and Carmen, launching the first resident opera productions in the County in more than 20 years. Productions have included Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Butterfly, Carmen, Hansel & Gretel, The Medium, The Telephone, Gala Concerts, annual Aria Parties, outreach to schools and seniors, and unique "Opera in Unusual Places!"
