The concept for the International School of Columbus was first explored in 2005, by a group of Columbus parents and grandparents, who wanted another educational choice for middle and high school students in our community. We traveled around the state, benchmarking award winning schools, attended seminars and conferences to learn more about educational opportunities for students, and conducted community surveys and interest meetings to gain feedback from community members. What we learned solidified our mission to create a small school that would offer a rigorous curriculum to all students who attended. We also wanted our school to be tuition-free, so that no student would be discouraged from attending due to financial concerns. Our journey eventually led us to Ball State University, and we proudly received our charter contract with BSU in December, 2008. The International School of Columbus opened in August 2009, with 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. The school will continue to add a grade a year, until we have our first graduating class of 12th graders in 2013. Even though we plan to grow the school, we will remain committed to a small school environment by not exceeding 100 students per grade. In February of 2011 we were authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School.
