In 1995 professional engineer Wade Johnson had an idea that would make his clients' lives much easier. Johnson merged his engineering talents with those of surveyor Lonnie Pace, II and soon a one-stop shop for engineering, surveying and consulting was born. For Johnson, the corporate strategy seemed like a natural solution to his clients' hectic hiring practices. "When I first started as an engineer, I saw that clients were hiring outside surveyors and architects, " Johnson said. "Surveying and civil engineering go hand-in-hand, and it made sense to merge both into one business."
Years later, Johnson & Pace filled yet another gap in the construction process when they hired an in-house architect to help clients with full building design. "The combination", Johnson says, "has attracted all types of clients. We've worked with projects ranging from $500 to $1, 000, 000, and each client receives the same treatment. I can truly say that we give 100 percent to every customer. However, all of that attention doesn't mean that future clients are left out in the cold; our firm is flexible enough to balance existing clients with new ones. Clients are constantly asking, 'Are you too busy for us?' and as of yet, we have never turned a client away, " he says. "We stay busy because clients have come to trust us and have confidence in our firm's skills. We provide another set of eyes for their projects."
Johnson says the effort his firm infuses into each project does not stop with analytical expertise. Instead, Johnson & Pace consistently creates innovative and budget-conscious solutions to its clients' requests. "A client's budget is on my mind at all times, " Johnson admits. "I always shoot high because you're never a hero if you shoot low and come in high."
For Johnson, the formula for a successful business venture is obvious. "It's pretty simple. We put 100 percent into every project. We stay on track because our corporate culture is to work hard, keep our clients' interests at heart, follow regulations and be ethical about the way we handle business. That's all there is to it."
Johnson & Pace currently has 60 employees at their Longview office. The firm offers civil, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering, as well as architecture, interior design and land surveying.
