Dr. Joseph P. Lynch III is a pulmonary and critical care physician who practices in Westwood. He is director of UCLA Health’s Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplantation Program, and is the Holt and Jo Hickman Endowed Chair in Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplantation. His areas of clinical and research interest include lung transplantation, interstitial and parenchymal lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, pulmonary vasculitis, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and other rare lung diseases. He is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Lynch is a professor of clinical medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care Medicine, Allergy, and Clinical Immunology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He has contributed and served in senior editorial roles for more than 400 scientific publications, including Seminars of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the European Respiratory Journal, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and others.
Dr. Lynch received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He completed his internal medicine residency as well as his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center, where he remained on faculty for 25 years before coming to UCLA in 2003.
Dr. Lynch is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation; also, he is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the European Respiratory Society. He served on the Regent for the American College of Chest Physicians from 1994 to 1997, and on the Board of Directors for the American Thoracic Society from 1996 to 1998. He is a member of the University of Michigan’s Presidential Society who carries an endowed lectureship at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
