Juntos Academy Middle School (JAMS) is an IB-MYP charter school providing a student-centered community focused educational experiences for students in grades 6-8. We offer an atmosphere where students design their own schedule from an assortment of course content. Juntos, a Spanish word meaning united, translates into working with students, parents, communities and organizations to create the best educational experiences for children and their families. Juntos Academy recognizes that building lasting relationships with families and the community is fundamental to the success of Juntos Academy. It is another way for us to build capacity and obtain parents and community participation.

Students study the arts, athletics, humanities, Spanish, math, sports, and science, and participate in service-learning to help better their communities. Students work in cooperative groups; engage in project-based learning, independent work, and field experiences to further their understanding of course content. Our goal is for students to take responsibility for their own learning, approach unfamiliar situations with courage, and understand their strengths and weaknesses.

Juntos Academy uses the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, which is based on the five areas of interaction structured to help teachers improve their practice and provide opportunities for students to learn. It helps student connect their course selections to real world problems and foster a love of learning. At Juntos Academy, we serve a diverse population of students making the learning experience rich with various viewpoints, perspectives, and dialogues.

At the heart of Juntos Academy's philosophy is the desire to build a culture of commitment, trust, and respect so it is possible for adults to engage in continuous learning and provide the best possible education for students. We work with mentors in the community to build strong school partnerships through our community service program, which involves multimedia history projects, community-wide clean up, art and theatre programs, athletic competitions, and quarterly community fairs.

Therefore, we seek to create a learning environment where children can follow their passion and see the importance of education as a vehicle for their success. The mission of Juntos Academy is to create rigorous academic programs for a diverse group of students, which will enable them to become visionaries, innovators, and creators in their communities.
