To begin the story of our business, we need to start with the Krog family of Southeast Texas.
The family of John Krog, Sr. and his wife Joan, along with their youngest son, Karl, began the business adventure of owning a Contractor Supply Store in Orange, Texas. They had other business endeavors that were winding down and wanted to find something closer to their home.
In 1993 they purchased Express Supply, a locally owned industrial supply store. Express Supply outgrew the original building and was moved to another location about a mile away. The business was renamed Construction Specialist, Inc. and became known as CSI Supply (CSI). The new facility of CSI was located in the downtown area of Orange, Texas close to shipyards, Industrial sites, the Orange County Courthouse, and the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Its new home was the former location of a local lumber yard. With the spacious new showroom and warehouse, CSI grew into a business which was appreciated throughout the community.
In 2001 John and Joan moved to Liberty Hill, Texas. Karl remained in Orange as manager of CSI, and Marty, who was working at the Sheriff's Office as the Sheriff's Administrative Assistant, began helping Karl with the business as needed.
Expansion:
In 2004, Karl and his parents were approached about buying an existing contractor tool store, Applied Tool and Supply, a 10 year old business serving the Austin, Texas area. In November 2004, the Krog Family completed the acquisition of Applied Tool and Supply.
At CSI, the owners and their employees weathered many difficulties culminating in 2005 with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita which devastated parts of Louisiana and Southeast Texas. Hurricane Rita caused extensive damage to the CSI building but even with no electricity and the roof blown off of the showroom building, Karl and the other employees worked out of the warehouse to supply the community what was needed to rebuild. With help from the Austin store and the great vendors within the supply industry, CSI played a crucial part in rebuilding Orange County and the surrounding areas.
Karl and Marty moved to Austin in January of 2006 and Marty began working in the business full time. Applied Tool and Supply outgrew the facility where it was located so the Krog family purchased a larger building on Saint Elmo Road. In early 2006 Applied Tool and Supply moved into its' new building. This is the building that Mar-teK Contractor Supply currently occupies.
During the next few years many changes occurred. The economic downturn hit the Orange area and then in 2008 Hurricane Ike washed ashore in Southeast Texas causing extensive flooding. Once again the CSI building suffered major damage but played a key part in the recovery efforts. Unfortunately, the economic downturn in Southeast Texas and the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Ike made it necessary for CSI Supply to closed its' doors for the last time in October of 2009.
In January of 2010 Applied Tool and Supply was changed from a Limited Partnership to a Limited Liability Company, and became Circle K Texas Enterprises, LLC operating under the dba of Applied Tool & Fastener.
In 2010, a satellite store was opened in San Antonio, Texas. The economic downturn eventually made its way to Central Texas, and the satellite store in San Antonio was closed.
The Company Today:
Although 2009 to 2012 were challenging years across the national economy, Circle K Texas Enterprises, LLC dba Applied Tool & Fastener remained as steadfast and strong as they could within an industry and economy that was very unstable. By the end of 2013, the Krog family began to discuss the future of Circle K Enterprises, LLC dba Applied Tool & Fastener. John and Joan Krog wanted to remaining active in the business but desired the freedom to spend more time with their grandchildren, great grandchildren and pursuing other endeavors. It was proposed that Karl and Marty buy a larger stake in the business. So, in April 2014, after months of discussion and planning, John and Joan Krog sold the majority of their stock to Marty. Marty now holds a majority of the stock in the business with John, Joan and Karl as minority owners.
Following the plans formulated to re-vitalize the business, in June 2014 the business name was changed to Mar-teK Contractor Supply, LLC. On August 1st, 2014 the official announcement of the completed name and logo change was made to all customers, vendors, and business partners of the new Mar-teK Contractor
