Dr. Philip Storey grew up in Houston, Texas and attended Episcopal High School, where he graduated valedictorian. After a year-long Rotary youth exchange to Argentina, he matriculated at Vanderbilt University on a full-scholarship. With a passion for languages, Philip studied Spanish in Salamanca, French in Senegal, and Mandarin in Beijing, graduating college summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned a Master of Public Health with merit at the University of Sydney in Australia before attending Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Philip received the Medical Student Research Award at the Wilmer Eye Institute Dana Center for his research on the Salisbury Eye Evaluation and trachoma in Tanzania. During his ophthalmology residency, Philip served as Chief Resident at the University of Southern California Roski Eye Institute and completed a Retina Fellowship at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital. During this time, he received the nationally awarded Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship and the Ronald G. Michels Fellowship Award, which is given annually to the top retina fellows in the United States.
Dr. Storey is an expert in medical and surgical management of all diseases of the retina and vitreous and is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has author or co-authored over 50 publications and book chapters, which have received over 440 research citations by his peers. Philip has written textbook chapters on a wide range of topics including age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal detachments, and retinal vein occlusions. He has frequently presented at international and national conferences including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Surgeons, and the Retina Society. Philip serves as a reviewer for several top journals including Ophthalmology and Retina: The Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases. Outside of the hospital, Philip enjoys marathons, Ironman triathlons, and chasing his two golden retrievers, Georgie and Commando.
