The Shield Institute, a not for profit, non sectarian organization, has a long history and a strong commitment to provide services to those individuals underserved by the public sector. Initially, in 1921, we began as an orphanage for Jewish girls in the Bronx. Then in 1954 as that need diminished our focus changed. Since that time, we have been dedicated to providing educational, clinical, and advocacy services to hundreds of thousands of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism - and their families.

As an affiliate with the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services (JBFCS), we have many partners, friends, and allies with a shared vision of a better life for people with developmental challenges.
