Dr. Paul Runkle and Professor Larry Carin founded SIG in 2004 to continue and extend applied defense research that originated in an academic setting at Duke University. SIG's initial work focused on radar signal processing for combat target identification, sonar-based automatic target recognition (ATR), and airborne minefield detection. SIG's application areas quickly grew to include unexploded ordnance (UXO) detection, IED detection, and video image analysis including target detection, tracking, classification, and activity models. To address a critical customer need across multiple applications, SIG has also developed Analyst-in-the-Loop (AIL) technologies that enable algorithms to utilize operator or analyst feedback to enhance the performance of their models. This approach leverages the speed and consistency of an algorithm, with the accuracy and context-based decisions that can be provided by an analyst or warfighter.
SIG continues to evolve its core technologies and apply them to many different problems important to national security, public safety, and commercial surveillance. Our solutions help people make sense of vast amounts of data associated with a broad range of disciplines.
SIG innovates new technologies and synthesizes applied solutions that can be transitioned to prototypes for test and evaluation. Such innovation and synthesis is core to SIG's continued success with an array of government customers and industry partners in National Security, Public Safety, and Commercial Surveillance. SIG engages on government contracts from a wide range of agencies including Office of Naval Research, Air Force Research Laboratory, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Army Research Office, US Army Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate, Naval Research Laboratory, and The Environmental Security Technology Certification Program.
SIG is an experienced partner in developing advanced decision systems for multiple sensor and data types. Our senior technical development leadership has significant experience serving on large integration teams to ensure success in joint architecture development, software interface development and integration, and test and evaluation.
