The National Urban Technology Center, Inc. (Urban Tech) develops education curriculum and services for building social/life skills, improved academic skills, and financial and digital literacy skills for underserved youth. Through our Youth Leadership Academy (R) (YLA) courses, students develop fundamental skills for life effectiveness, including: recognizing and managing emotions, developing caring and concern for others, establishing positive relationships, making responsible decisions, and handling challenging situations constructively and ethically.
YLA's rich multimedia curriculum integrates social/life skills and technology with academic learning. Our YLA curriculum is primarily designed for students ages 8-14. However, there are curriculum modules that are available for high school and special needs students, ages 15-18. Through YLA, students develop the competencies for graduating from high school prepared for college and career success.
Urban Tech also develops turnkey computer training centers (CTCs), industry standard computer courseware and technical assistance to prepare adults for full participation in an information age. Urban Tech works in partnership with schools and community-based organizations, such as community and youth development centers, faith-based organizations, and social services agencies, to provide these services.
Our model programs, curriculum, and training provide organizations with the tools they need to improve the quality of life in inner city and rural areas. In the past 17 years, we have helped thousands of people nationwide to realize their goals of greater academic achievement, certification for technology-related jobs, and improved social/life skills and standards.
Urban Tech's background and experience is broad in terms of geographic and client reach and providing the highest quality of instruction. Since its founding in 1995, Urban Tech has partnered with approximately 500 schools, five (5) school districts, and 200 after-school programs. It has developed 750 computer training centers, and served over 500,000 students and families. Headquartered in New York City, Urban Tech is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation focused on transforming lives through the power of technology.
