Welcome Message
Antonio Viva
It may still be winter in Natick, Massachusetts, but on the campus of Walnut Hill we are busily preparing for a full calendar of spring performances and events. I, perhaps more than anyone, am eagerly anticipating these coming months. I have been thoroughly inspired and energized by my first six months as Head of School, and expect that the remainder of my first year will be equally exciting.
As my team and I prepare for the second half of the school year, here are some of the things we look forward to:
The Writing & Publishing Department will award the Elizabeth Bishop Prizes in Verse, Fiction, and Playwriting, offering $45,000 in writing scholarships. March brings the annual event, Black on White: Readings from the Program, and Readings from The Blue Pencil takes place on June 5.
Visual Art will host their all-department shows on January 20 and June 2.
The Theater Department has much in store for us: a childrens show (January), student-directed plays (February), a winter play (February) and the spring musical (May).
Ballet students will be preparing for the spring dance repertory in April and New Works: Dance, in June.
Finally, the Youth Philharmonic Concert takes place on June 3.
Of course, throughout the spring, we will be experiencing the typical transitions of a high school...admitting talented young artists to our program, and applauding the accomplishments of our seniors as they accept positions at leading colleges and conservatories worldwide.
For information on the events mentioned here, or the many others to take place over the next few months, please visit www.walnuthillarts.org.
