TiNi Aerospace, Inc. is the foremost manufacturer of mechanisms employing Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) materials. The most common of which is an alloy of Titanium and Nickel or TiNi, where the company derives its name. Among the products developed and manufactured are a family of high force release devices called the Frangibolt®, an array of fast acting Pinpullers, a range of innovative Ejector Release Mechanisms (ERMs), and a host of other SMA Actuators. These NEAs or "Non Explosive Actuators" are designed to operate in a variety of environments ranging from the vacuum of space to the extreme pressure of deep sea.
Space applications include hold down and release of solar panels, antennae, instrument cover doors, booms, heat shields, radiators, isolation systems, and other spacecraft deployables. TiNi products have been used on scientific missions flown by NASA, ESA, and JAXA on spacecrafts such as the Clementine (first to travel to the moon since the Apollo program), Mars Global Surveyor, Messenger (To Mercury), New Horizons (To Pluto), JUNO (To Jupiter), Mars Express, Rosetta (Asteroid), Selene, Muses-C, Ikaros, and many others. They have also been used on numerous other commercial, academic, and government satellites flown for conducting scientific experimentation, earth observation, and increasingly for telecommunication purposes. We supply mission critical components to the great majority of Aerospace companies in the US, Europe and Japan.
Similarly, underwater applications are many including ballast release, buoy detachment, payload separation, instrument recovery, and disentanglement maneuvers. TiNi products have been used aboard underwater vehicles such as "Alvin" (the first manned submersible capable of traveling to the deepest regions of the ocean floor at 15000+ feet) as well as autonomous vehicles ranging in function from Military to Marine Ecology.
We also provide engineering services in the area of research and development of SMA products with experience in a broad range of industries including Medical, Automotive, Down-Hole, Tactile Feedback, and Fire Safety. Our technical staff made up of scientists, engineers, technicians, and machinists have the experiences, skills, and know how to quickly and efficiently evaluate new concepts, develop prototypes, and help lead the way to production. We welcome the opportunity to learn about your application and to provide the support needed to make your project a success.
