Company Summary

Tonto Rim Search and Rescue Squad is an all volunteer, unpaid, self-funded, 501(c)(3) organization that performs Search and Rescue operations under the direction of the Gila County Sheriffs Office per AZ Revised Statute 11-441. Our 65+ volunteers fill a resource gap that would be prohibitively expensive for the Sheriffs Office or local fire departments to fill because of the significant resources required during a Search and Rescue operation.

We operate in 4800 square miles of what is the recreational “playground” for much of Arizona – Mogollon Rim Country and Gila County. It is beautiful country, but it is also unforgiving in rugged, remote terrain, as well as temperature extremes. We are also occasionally called to assist in SAR operations in other counties.

We have a highly skilled technical rope rescue team and are working towards Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) certification. We are also trained in swiftwater rescue, tracking, and search K9’s. We save lives every year, in addition to rescuing the injured and finding the lost.
