Since its origination in 1960, Thorpe Water Development started as a family owned water supply company serving new rural housing developments a Public Water Supply where municipal water was not available. A Public Water Supply consists of systems serving 15 taps or 25 people at least 60 days per year. This requiring monitoring and sampling of each system as mandated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources under the systems Operation Permit as well as under the Safe Drinking Water Act. These systems eliminated the need for homeowners to construct their own individual water supply and aided to improve the safety and quality of the water consumed. The systems are run in much the same fashion as a municipality, all samples are analyzed by a state certified laboratory and results are submitted as required under their permits to the state. This makes Thorpe Water a unique operation, having the expertise and the certified personnel to operate with the laws. Today Thorpe Water Development owns 7 private water systems and contract operates 8 additional systems throughout Polk and Dallas County. In addition to the water systems we also contract maintenance and operate 4 wastewater lagoon systems.
