$10,000 donated for STEM education through first-of-its-kind education savings initiative
TUCSON, AZ (April 14, 2014) – Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. today announced a donation of $10,000 to the Tucson Unified School District to be used for science, technology, engineering and math initiatives. The money was raised through the company’s EdAhead® initiative, the nation’s first education savings initiative with a multiple match, which harnesses the collective power of employers and employees to invest in the future of public education. To date, D&B Credibility has donated over $245,000 to schools across the country in districts where the company has offices.
A check presentation ceremony will take place at the Governing Board meeting on Tuesday, April 15th at 6:00 PM PST at Main District Office 1010 E. Tenth Street, Tucson, AZ 85719.
The EdAhead initiative matches employee contributions to their 529 college education plans up to a set amount each year. The company then donates that total matched amounts to education programs at school districts in the communities local to each D&B Credibility office.
As part of its commitment, the company agreed to match dollar for dollar up to $10,000 for all donations from the community to the Tucson Unified School District in a match campaign that concluded on March 31st.
“We launched EdAhead last year with the belief that there isn’t a more pressing issue in this country than education,” said Jeff Stibel, Chairman and CEO of Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. “We are so pleased to make our first EdAhead donation to Project Lead the Way for the Tucson Unified School District, especially since it will help drive education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. We are proud to help reinforce the importance of higher education within the communities where our employees work and live.”
The EdAhead funds will be used for the Tucson Unified School District’s STEM initiatives, targeting elementary and middle school students. The Early Childhood Initiative will be a summer STEM program for rising first graders involved in an invention camp and the Middle School STEM Initiative will use the EdAhead funds to support two middle school STEM programs. Tucson Unified School District’s Booth Fickett Middle School will create an Optimal Robotics team to provide students the opportunity to become familiar with future opportunities in engineering and robotics, while the Mansfeld Middle School will provide students with hydropower kits that will allow students the opportunity to have a meaningful discovery experience and demonstrate how water is used as a renewable resource.
“Partnerships with businesses that support educational endeavors enrich and enhance opportunities for our youth, who are our future leaders and decision-makers,” says Kristina Allen, director of the grants and partnerships division of TUSD.
Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp.’s relationship with the Tucson Unified School District will continue with EdAhead next year, and the company hopes to inspire other businesses to join the cause and offer EdAhead programs for their employees. Other school districts receiving EdAhead donations this year based on the location of Dun & Bradstreet Credibility offices include: Monica-Malibu Unified School District (CA); Bethlehem Area School District (PA); Guilford County Schools (NC); and Millburn-Short Hills School District (NJ).
